We often associate protein shakes with fitness enthusiasts and social media influencers as a must have part of a strict diet to achieve weight loss and/or muscle gains. But what if protein shakes can be incorporated into our everyday day way of eating without the fuss around when we should be having it and the huge results driven expectations?
Most commonly a protein shake is introduced into our diet to assist with weight-loss and many have achieved desired results with using protein shakes as a form of meal replacement. This however is not always sustainable for a long-term way of eating if it is approached from this intention alone.
In my own experience with weight loss and introducing protein shakes into my diet, I found not solely relying on a shake to replace a meal everyday was more supportive for me. This made my way of eating more sustainable. For example, instead of deciding that every single day I would replace 1 or 2 meals with a shake I would let my body and my schedule decide if I was having a shake to replace a meal that day. If I know that I am having an earlier than usual start to my day I may have a shake for breakfast as I may be short on time. On the other hand, if I have had a couple of solid meals for the day, I will likely have a shake for dinner so I don’t feel so weighed down as I wind down for the day.
Instead of viewing protein shakes as a meal replacement view it as a supplement which is exactly what it is. The biggest key to bringing protein shakes into your daily living is to know why you are having it and listening to what your body requires for that day.
There are many types of protein shakes on the market today and many of them are made on whey protein. There are more vegan options hitting the shelves to now such as the Sacred Body Vegan Meal Shake which is super yummy too!
